Editor's notes
Thonet chairs became the first mass-produced furniture in history, thanks to the industrial scalability of their bentwood process. Produced around 1860-1800, the No. 22 was among the more ornate models, often associated with bourgeois interiors rather than casual cafés. The looping, heart-like curves with an upholstered oval panel in the center are characteristic of the No. 22.
Collectors prize these pieces today for their combination of craftsmanship, history, and sculptural beauty.
